From industrial brownfield
to redevelopment a major transformation is underway at One River Street
![]() Structures have been cleared on the riverfront in anticipation of remediation. For more than 150 years, generations of families made a living on Hastings-on-Hudson's riverfront. The address, One River Street, reflects its historic role as an economic center for the community. However, for more than a generation, this once vibrant riverfront location, with its tremendous potential, has been underutilized and much of it permanently closed. Atlantic Richfield Company's (ARC) affiliate, ARCO Environmental Remediation LLC (AERL), owns approximately 28 acres of riverfront property that make up One River Street. ARC and AERL are committed to restoring this once vital location to productive re-use for the community. In 1977, ARC acquired the Anaconda Company, which once operated a wire and cable plant on the site through its Anaconda Wire and Cable subsidiary and division. ARC and AERL are now addressing contamination resulting from those historic wire and cable manufacturing operations. After extensive discussions and negotiations with the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson, The Riverkeeper (an environmental organization with a special focus on issues impacting the Hudson River) and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), ARC is preparing the site for remediation and future redevelopment. Cleaning up this 28-acre site, which has been used for industrial purposes for 150 years, will not be an overnight process. However, once remediation is completed, this historic heart of the community will once again be ready for a new development.
