![]() ARC is in the process of removing structurally unsound buildings to prepare for remediation of the ground underneath. Environmental remediation at One River Street moves forward under guidance of NYSDEC Atlantic Richfield Company (ARC) is moving forward on environmental remediation at One River Street under the guidance of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSEC). For the purpose of environmental remediation, the site has been divided into two parts: the riverfront property (known as Operable Unit 1 or OU-1) and the area of the river near the property (known as Operable Unit 2 or OU-2). ARC is moving forward on environmental remediation at the riverfront (OU-1) based on agreements it has reached with NYSDEC, as well as with the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson and the Riverkeeper, an environmental organization with a long history of involvement in projects along the Hudson River.
ARC and NYSDEC continue to work together to come to an agreement on remediation objectives for the river itself (OU-2). ARC recently submitted a detailed technical memo outlining several alternatives for dredging and capping river sediments. A decision is expected in the near future from NYSDEC on how ARC should proceed with this important aspect of the project. This decision may impact the timetable for the completion of environmental clean-up of the riverfront and, ultimately, the redevelopment of the riverfront site.
